The Echo/Neutra Ros’Antico: Swiss Made by Italians
Echo/neutra is quite new in the market, founded in 2019 by two guys very proud to be Italian. An independent micro brand that has built its reputation on a rectangular case (the Rivanera), slim, very minimalist, dressy. And built in grade 5 titanium, a material you usually see on watches from big brands charging A$10k to 15k.
Nicola Callegaro is the designer, an architect by training who spent close to two decades in object design and brand creation, founded the communication studio Zeppelin in Northern Italy in 2008, and worked across everything from furniture to aerospace before deciding to build the watch he actually wanted to own.
Cristiano Quaglia handles product development and comes at it from the engineering side: an aerospace engineer with a master’s in propulsion systems, whose day job is the stuff built to fly over our heads. Between them you get the whole echo/neutra identity.
Rivanera
The Rivanera is echo/neutra’s signature and the clearest expression of everything above. It’s a rectangular dress watch in grade 5 titanium, cut in that Art Deco idiom the brand keeps returning to, and it wears far slimmer than most people expect a rectangular watch to. Then in 2025 came the Rivanera Piccolo, which trims 7mm off the length while keeping almost the same width as the original.
The two share a design language but not a movement, and that’s the key to understanding them. The Classic measures 27mm wide by 40mm long and just 5.9mm thick including the sapphire crystal, weighs roughly 21 grams, and runs the hand-wound ETA 7001, a famously slim manual calibre beating at 21,600vph (3Hz) with a 42-hour power reserve, all visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback. The Piccolo trims the length to 33mm and the width to 26mm, but sits slightly thicker at 6.9mm because it houses an automatic movement rather than a manual one: the Sellita SW1000, running at 28,800vph (4Hz) with a 46-hour reserve. The result is two watches that look like siblings but wear differently, and it explains the pricing quirk we’ll come to, where the smaller Piccolo costs more than the larger Classic. It’s the collection collectors point to when they talk about echo/neutra, which is exactly why a new colourway across both variants is worth covering.
The Antique Rose Dial
The Ros’Antico is the first colour echo/neutra has done in-house on the Rivanera. The name is a contraction of rosa and antico, antique rose, and the choice of shade is deliberate. Salmon dials have been everywhere the last few years, so echo/neutra went warmer and dustier, a tone that leans vintage rather than trendy. It lands differently on each watch. On the Classic, the pink sits flat on the dial plate with a sunburst-brushed small seconds at 6 o’clock, and every piece of detailing, hands, Art Deco tracks, wordmark, comes in a vivid electric blue.
On the Piccolo, the same pink runs over the Grain de Riz guilloché texture with black detailing instead and a small white-on-black date at 6, a quieter, more vintage read of the same idea.
Both ship with two straps: blue Saffiano leather plus black rubber for the Classic, brown Alpine calf plus black rubber for the Piccolo. And unusually for a brand that trades in numbered editions, both join the permanent collection. In Australia, the Classic is A$2,550 and the Piccolo A$2,800 through the Time+Tide Shop, with import duties included in the price, available from June 26. For a grade 5 titanium dress watch with a Swiss mechanical movement and a dial that doesn’t copy anyone else’s homework, we think that’s genuinely strong value. This isn’t another brand chasing the salmon trend. It looks like nothing else at the price.
